Stewardship

  • The principal distinction lies in the fact that resurfacing or rehabilitation is a structural repair intended to prolong the effective lifespan of your asphalt surface. This process involves patching (if required) and overlaying the entire surface with a fresh layer of hot bituminous asphalt, typically ranging from 1 ½” to 3″ in thickness. On the other hand, sealcoating can be compared to painting your house - it's not a structural repair.

    While sealcoating does protect and extend your asphalt's life, it doesn't address structural imperfections. Consequently, sealcoating is a considerably less costly procedure than resurfacing your driveway, reflecting its more cosmetic than corrective nature.

  • Depending on the fluctuation in temperatures between day and night, your newly installed asphalt surface could require over 30 days to fully cure. Generally speaking, cautious driving on the surface should be feasible after a period of two to three days. Please note the potential for tire scuff marks during this period.

  • Much like the repair of rot in a piece of wood on your house exterior, it is significantly cheaper to repair deteriorated areas before they start to spread than to wait and rehabilitate the entire drive. Typically a dollar spent on repairs in the first half of a driveway’s life will cost $4 to $5 to repair at a later date.
